How to get a website up and Running and make money. A step by step instructional guide.

1 Get the Websites The first thing you need to do is get your product. You need to have something to sell in order to make money, whether it be a product or a service. In this case, it is a product, turnkey websites. Go to www.turnkeytogo.com or www.article-generate.com to get the turnkey websites you need to sell. Turnkeytogo offers over 500 turnkey websites for a one time fee. Article-Generate offers a membership to their website builder where you can build turnkey websites with tons of content in a very short time. That also is a one time fee.

2 Download the Websites Once you purchased one of those or both, it is time to get the websites. What you need to do is download one of the websites to your computer. They will come in a zip file. You need to save the zip file to your computer and then open it up. Then you need to save the contents of the zip file to your computer. Go to www.winzip.com if you need the software to unzip file.

3 Save to your computer and open up the Readme.html file Once you have a website unzipped, you should have it saved on your computer and see a bunch of either html or php files. Your next step would be to get the site ready. You need to open readme.html. There should be one of those files in every site. Once opened, it will give you instructions on what to do to get the site up.

The readme file will tell you two things basically. First, it will tell you what affiliate programs to sign up with. The main ones are Google Adsense, Clickbank, Shareasale and Amazon. You don't have to sign up for every affiliate program though, just the ones listed in the readme file. The second step you would need to do is to insert your affiliate ID's into the site and some other info like your email or site title. If there are only a few files, you can open each file individually and go to Edit then replace to edit the files. If there are more than a few pages, you would need to get free edit/replace software.

4 Edit Replace Instructions

First, download the software at: http://www.replsoft.com/ufudnload.html It is free.

To run this, you need to first make sure "Batch Replacer" is clicked up on top. Then go to the files on the left that you want to run the edit -replace on. This is your server. Drill into the directory you want to make changes on and make sure the files appear, as on the left. Then click the Yellow button up on top first and then click the red star. The red star should make the file names on the left turn red. That means they are hilighted to be edited.

Next, go to the red arrow I drew above. This points to the edit - replace boxes. Type in what you want to be found, like an affiliate ID and then type in what you want it replaced with. Make sure you type this in exact. Then click the Add button, circled in blue. This will add the edit-replace. (Make sure to uncheck "Create file backups" unless you really want the files backed up)

After that, hit the "Start Replace" button that the yellow arrow is pointing to. This will start it.

You will then see a screen like this. This will run through all the files, tell you at the left if it was changed or not, and then give you a statistical summary at the bottom of the number of files.

So now you should have the correct affiliate ID's and email address and so on, in the website files. You just need to edit what is in the readme file.

The next step would be to buy a domain name.

5 Buying a domain name - You will need to buy a domain name for your website. There are many places that sell domain names. The best place I found to buy domain names is www.godaddy.com

You should pick a domain name that is something close to what you are promoting. I suggest to try to use a keyword from your site in the domain name. For example, if you have a site about downloading music, I would try to find a name with either "download" or "music" in the name. This will help with recognizing the site on link exchanges, but also in search engine rankings.

How do you find good names though? First, I would check out: http://inventory.overture.com/d/searchinventory/suggestion/

That is the Overture keyword suggestor. Type in a keyword for your site, say "Download" and it will give you the number of searches last month on that keyword along with other keywords with the word "download" in it.

Another great tool to use is www.123finder.com Here you can type in a keyword, like "Download" and it will give you a list of available domain names.

Also, check out Some4everyone This site helps you get access to expired domain names. Thousands of sites everyday expire when their owner either doesn't want to work o nthe site anymore or forgets about them. however, many of these sites got promoted before and are getting nice traffic coming in. 6 Once you have a domain name, the next step is to get hosting. We suggest www.turnkeytogo.com/hosting.html - We offer afforable hosting plans for your website and can assist you when you needed. If you decide not to host with us, there are many other quality and affordable hosting sites out there that you can find through Google or Yahoo.

Now you have both a domain name and hosting. You need to make sure your domain name is pointed to the name server of the host. The host will send you an email of what their domain name server (DNS) is . You need to change this in the control panel of your domain name, to reflect whatever the host sent you. Sometimes it may take up to 24 to 48 hours for your domain name to point to your server that you are hosting on.

Once the domain is pointed to your server, you are ready to upload the files to the server. To do this, you need an ftp program. (File Transfer Protocol) . You can get this for free.

7 FTP Program Tutorial

First, download the file at http://software.visicommedia.com/en/products/aceftpfreeware/ and install the software on your computer.

Then open it up and you will see below:

What you want to do first is click the connect button which is right about the Log button, circled in green. This will then take you to the screen where the red circle is. There you can click on an existing site(ie. Empiresites) or click on New Site Profile. Since this is your first time, click on New Site Profile. This will take you to the box that says "New Site Profile Wizard" This is where you enter in your ftp info that your host gives you. See below:

Where I have "Empiresites" just put your site name. Anything descriptive. Then further down, fill in the "Server" box. I have www.empiresites.com . Just put in your site name that you own.

Then enter in your User Id and passworrd. This is what your host will give you. If you need hosting, contact us. Then I suggest putting a check next to "Save Password" and leaving "Anonymous" unchecked. Keep the Port at 21 also. Then when set, click "Next". You will then come to this screen:

Here, just enter "www" in local folder or leave blank. Then click "Finish" This will save your server info and profile. Then to connect to the server, go back up to the green circle in the first picture and click the "Connect" button. Then double click on your site and it will connect you if your user ID and password are correct. If you just bought the domain , sometimes it takes up to 48 hours for it to connect to your server, so it may not connect if that hasn't happened yet. If having problems, double check the info you entered.

Then you will see a screen like this:

The left side is your local files on your computer. The right side is the server, your site. If you see the green arrow o the right, it points to biuttons that perform actions on your server directory, like creating folders and renaming files. Place your cursor over the button and it will pop up what it does.

To transfer files to your server, hilite the files on the left you want to move to your site, as the blue arrow is pointing to. You should be hilighting all your files, including folders, the first time you upload the site. So you'd hilight from the Images folder on the left all the way down to the last file. Then with all that hilighted, press the right arrow button, that is circled by the blue circle above. This will transfer over the files to the server. It will not be instant, it will take a minute or so, depending on how many files.

You also can transfer files from the server back to your PC in the exact opposite manner.

That's it. You've just uploaded your files.

8 Html Editor So now your site should be up and running. From here, you have two things you can do. Edit the site more or promote it. To edit the site, you need to open up the files in a text editor like Notepad or Wordpad or in an html editor. PHP files can only be opened in Wordpad or Notepad. The final step is to promote your website. You can't make money without traffic.

9 Tips to build traffic

3. Article submission - Articles are very popular and are all around the internet. People write articles on a certain topic and put a link to their website at the bottom of the article. They then submit these articles to many article sites. These articles are then all over the internet for people to read. People will read the articles and see your link at the bottom of the article and click on it and go to your site.

5. Social Networking Sites - I'm sure you have heard of Youtube, Myspace and Craigslist. Well these are 3 of the highest traffic sites in the world and they all allow any user to sign up with them and submit information which can in turn promote a site or product.

http://www.youtube.com is a video submission site where you can post or view thousands of videos. Well you can create and post videos about your product or something similar and post your website address on the video or near it and drive a lot of visitors to your site.

http://www.myspace.com allows you to create a personal page which you can target towards your website. For example, if your site is about golf, you can create a page dedicated to golf and put links in it to your site. Then you can create a group about golf or join existing golf groups to promote it even more. Then you can get friends with similar interests and once you do, you can post comments on their page regarding your website.

http://www.craigslist.com - This is a classified ads site where users can post ads for free in specific cities. You can go into various cities and post ads promoting your website. This will bring in more free traffic to your site.

6. Social Bookmarking sites - These types of sites are relatively new. You can post website links or comments to these sites and they become instantly available to the world to view. If you post a very interesting comment or topic, you can instantly get many hits to your site. This will not give you long term trffic but will be good for quick traffic. 7. Forums - Posting comments in forums on your topic is a very good way to get traffic. What you would need to do is sign up with the forum and then create a signature. A signature is at the bottom of every one of your posts. You should put something in there about your website and a link to your site. Then people will read your post and go to your site.

The tough thing is to find good forums. I suggest going to www.google.com and www.yahoo.com and typing in the type of forum you are looking for. Say your site is about poker, you would want to type in "poker forum" and see the results that come up. Then go into them and see if the site looks good, look if it looks like there are a decent number of posts and activity. You don't want to post to forums where the last post was 5 months ago. Then sign up with them, create a signature and start posting comments.

8. Toplists - Toplists can be very effective in getting traffic. I have used them a lot and gotten good results. To find them, I would search the same way as you did for forums. Go to Google or Yahoo and type in the type of toplist you want. Then go through them and submit your site. You wil need to add a reciprocal link for all the toplists you join. Then the more traffic that you send to these toplsits, the higher you are ranked on their site and therefore, get more traffic.

9. Blogs - Weblogs or blogs are another great source for quick traffic. Find existing blogs by going through Google or Yahoo and then make posts to them . Make sure you put a link to your website somewhere on the submission.

10. Pay per click search engines. This will get you immediate traffic but can be costly. Depends on how fast you want traffic. Here you go in and bid how much you want to pay per click. Then your ad will show up on these sites, and each time someone clicks on your ad, you will pay that much money. This will instantly put you on the top search engines like Google and Yahoo, but you have to keep track of what you spend and how much income you make to make sure if the campaign is worth it. Those are top ways to get traffic to your site. There are many more but these are very popular. I didn't get into search engine optimization. This is by far the best traffic, it is free and very constant. It also is very hard to get. It is extremely difficult to get good rankings in many top search engines unless you know many tricks, which are too many to explain here. Tracking your traffic - Now that you are getting traffic in, you want to know how effective that traffic is. You might realize you get many clicks from a certain site every time you post a comment there, but you will never know that without stats. Getting traffic is a trial and eror method. I suggest you try the above methods but not all will work for your site. By keeoing track of statistics, you can see what works and use that more.

I suggest going to Google Analytics. They are a very complete statistical tracking source. They will tell you where your traffic came from, how long they stayed and even if those visitors purchased something from you. I highly recommend it.

Webmaster - My final point is to basically say that with promoting websites, you are a webmaster. You need to stay on top of the latest tips and tricks for getting traffic. What might work today might not tomorrow. I suggest you visiting a few webmaster forums and joining them and continuously read up on them. It is always good to learn from others who are doing what you are doing. Plus they can give you much help in whatever you need . A few I suggest going to are:
